Just switched my keyboard on my phone to an OSS one. I don't know why it took me so long to realize you don't NEED to use big tech keyboards. I found HeliBoard on F-Droid, looks like an AOSP based keyboard, without any internet permissions. Way snappier than Swiftkey was.

@Doctor0710 If you use gesture typing, you might be interested in the work we are doing currently to bring it to heliboard out of the box.

Hope you have a great time using it! Helium314 has worked way too hard getting it to where it is!

#Heliboard is gathering gesture typing data, so that we can implement a #FOSS alternative to the closed gesture typing library Heliboard currently relies on. The data we collect will be released under the CC BY-SA 4.0 I also made a video including details & instructions. Boosts Please! The greater the diversity of people & languages in the data, the better we can test for correctness. @theeclecticdyslexic That would be a very nice addition, I'll see what I can do to help. Personally I prefer hitting the keys over swipeing and other guesture input, so I'm not sure my training data would be useful at all, but I can see how people would like this.

@Doctor0710 No worries! Heliboard is meant to try and be accomodating of how different people use their phones. I am sure even a few examples would be useful, as we are mostly trying to get a diverse set of examples to try and cover our bases.

Mostly just keep it in mind when suggesting Heliboard to people in case they bring up gesture typing!
