AGI - "Cara Giorgia ti rassegno, come hai ufficialmente auspicato, le mie dimissioni dal ruolo di ministro che avevi voluto affidarmi e che credo di avere svolto al meglio delle mie possibilità e senza alcuna controindicazione. Ti ringrazio per i riconoscimenti e per la fiducia che mi hai dimostrato in questi anni di guida del ministero del turismo. Ho voluto (e spero mi capirai) che fosse pubblicamente chiaro che eri tu a chiedermi di lasciare questo ruolo perché, come ho sempre detto, mi sarei dimessa solo di fronte ad una tua esplicita e pubblica richiesta. Volevo fosse chiaro, per la mia onorabilità, che faccio un passo indietro, non dovuto solo di fronte alla richiesta che il capo del mio Partito ritiene utile e opportuna. Mi premeva e mi preme sottolineare che ad oggi il mio certificato penale è immacolato e che per la vicenda della cassa integrazione non vi è nemmeno un semplice rinvio a giudizio. 
Ieri forse bruscamente (capirai il mio stato d’animo) ti ho rappresentato la mia non disponibilità ad una mia immediata dimissione perché volevo fosse separata sia dai commenti sul referendum perché non vorrei essere il capro espiatorio di una sconfitta che non è certo stata determinata da me, atteso anche il risultato in Lombardia e sinanche nel mio municipio.
Volevo che le mie dimissioni inoltre fossero separate dalla vicenda contingente ed assai diversa che ha riguardato l’On. Del Mastro che pure paga un prezzo alto.
Chiarito questo non ho difficoltà a dire “obbedisco“ e a fare quello che mi chiedi. 
Non ti nascondo un po’ di amarezza per l’esito del mio percorso ministeriale ma nella mia vita sono abituata a pagare i miei conti e spesso anche quelli degli altri. 
Tengo di più alla nostra amicizia e al futuro del nostro movimento.

AGI – “Dear Giorgia, I resign, as you officially wished, from the role of minister that you wanted to entrust to me, which I believe I have carried out to the best of my abilities and without any compromise. I thank you for the recognition and the trust you have shown me in these years of leading the Ministry of Tourism. I wanted (and I hope you will understand) it to be publicly clear that you were asking me to leave this role because, as I have always said, I would have resigned only in the face of an explicit and public request from you. I wanted it to be clear, for my honor, that I am stepping back, not just in response to the request of the leader of my Party, who considers it useful and appropriate. I wanted to emphasize that as of today, my criminal record is spotless and that regarding the layoff issue, there isn’t even a simple investigation.

Yesterday, perhaps abruptly (you will understand my mood), I presented you with my unwillingness to resign immediately because I wanted it to be separated from the comments about the referendum, as I wouldn’t want to be the scapegoat for a defeat that certainly wasn't determined by me, given also the result in Lombardy and even in my municipality.

I wanted my resignation also to be separated from the current and very different affair involving Deputy Del Mastro, who is paying a high price nonetheless.

Having clarified this, I have no difficulty in saying “I obey” and doing what you ask.

I don’t hide a little bitterness about the outcome of my ministerial career, but in my life I am used to paying my debts and often also those of others.

I value our friendship and the future of our movement more.
