LLM regurgitation causing problems for regurgitation industry
@sean_ae I’m waiting for the merger of the LLM and MLM industries so not only will we be walking around going “LLMLMMPMLLLLLPMMMLLMLLLL” but the machines will be selling cheap soap and toilet paper to each other.
@changterhune @sean_ae With enough effort, perhaps we could get here: https://youtu.be/I3GWOhIm018

@TROG @sean_ae FUCKING A WEEN!!!! Love this album. Had it on CD. Weirdos. Love it.
@changterhune @sean_ae Weeners unite! That album was my official intro to them (via "I'm in the Mood to Move") close to 30 years ago. I have a bootleg vinyl copy currently.
@TROG @sean_ae RIght? A friend got it in college and we wore a hole in the cd.

@changterhune @TROG I just need to say I fecking love how excited Ween fans get when people bring up Ween. <3

@sean_ae

@alisynthesis @changterhune @TROG the pod and pure guava are legendary

and this, too good

@sean_ae @alisynthesis @TROG omg never thought you'd be into ween but it tracks lol. As an HR16 owner I was so happy to hear on their records in addition to the weirdness. I need to revisit their discography.
@changterhune @alisynthesis @TROG yes i certainly enjoy a bit of brownness

@sean_ae @alisynthesis @TROG YISSSS THE BROWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.

Of of Henry's most popular nicknames is Boognish.

@sean_ae @changterhune @alisynthesis Somehow, I'm not surprised but this makes me happy to know!

@changterhune I'm forever almost buying an HR16, so cool

@sean_ae @TROG

@alisynthesis @sean_ae @TROG I loved mine. I finally got an HR16b & realized it was the one I wanted all along lol. But the HR16 has a couple great snares that sound like black metal when pitched high enough. Maybe I'll lay both out in a row with both the MMT8s for a row of Alesis and the sounds of 1991!

@changterhune i have that little retrokits sequencer that's based on that alesis, and it's really fun. super useful!

@sean_ae @TROG

@changterhune of course, now that i say that i'm realizing i haven't used it in like 2 years. shrug.

@sean_ae @TROG

@alisynthesis @sean_ae @TROG oh wow what's that? I always wished they'd make another one like an MMT16. Rumors swirled about one with 16 tracks and huge memory but it was vaporware and dreams.
Retrokits RK-008 Real-Time MIDI Recorder

Inspired by the legendary Alesis MMT8, the RK-008 brings this ease of MIDI Recording to the 21st century with added real-time, non-destructive Track tools like Quantize, Swing, Transpose plus MIDI Output selection in a portable format.

@changterhune don't let the picture fool you, it's the size of your palm. it's freaking great!

edit: the size of your hand, not your palm. that would be ridiculous.

@sean_ae @TROG

@alisynthesis @sean_ae @TROG OH SNAP that one. Nice. I'll put it on the wishlist next to the MPC lol.

@changterhune haha i guess i'm shilling gear the last couple days huh?

BAD ALISON

@sean_ae @TROG

@alisynthesis @changterhune @TROG hey this looks fun, cheers for mentioning, i should tell rob, he used mmt8 a lot

(only thing that bugged me about it was how it would play held notes when you unmuted a channel)

@sean_ae i use it like a simple little midi looper, although it can really do quite a bit. looks like the price has gone up, unfortunately.

don't sleep on their little midi router too, the rk-006. that one i honestly couldn't live without at this point.

@changterhune @TROG

@alisynthesis @sean_ae @TROG oh wow that midi hub looks dope. I'm literally in need of one MIDI socket in my rig right now for the TD3 to sync to. This may be a rela purchase before the rtr.
@sean_ae @alisynthesis @TROG yeah I had a lot more midi panic back then lol. Last time used mine was 28 years ago. Paired them up like Orbital to run an S900, CS1X, DR660, MKS30, EX8000 & others. The good old days.... except when you had to open it up and rub a pencil eraser on the contacts after the buttons got finicky.
@changterhune @alisynthesis @TROG lol yeah, i rem rob pushing them buttons *hard* some nights
@sean_ae @alisynthesis @TROG lol yeah had that happen. And then I spilled gatorade or something on it and realized I needed a new sequencer. I think I used an RM1X next then graduated to an iBook and Ableton.

@changterhune @sean_ae @TROG i kinda love the trend of small shops/makers re-upping classic gear. i have the s2400 (rip) and it's a really badass modern remake of the sp1200.

S2400 – ISLA Instruments

@alisynthesis @sean_ae @TROG oh yeah I want one too. A friend has it and loves it. As redundant as it might be I might like one still. No wonder I'm always broke lol.

@changterhune it's a really amazing instrument. honestly, overkill for what i usually need a sampler for, but i doubt i will sell it because it's so fun as a standalone thing.

the guy who runs isla instruments is apparently closing down his us-based business and heading back to the uk, so the future of that instrument is a bit up in the air, but there are quite a few out there at this point.

@sean_ae @TROG

@alisynthesis @sean_ae @TROG oh yeah I read that. Another case of America winning too much,. Le sigh. #fuck

@alisynthesis @changterhune @TROG yeah they just went bust right? (hopefully it's another 'restructuring')

it does look cool that thing

mate of mine has one as well as an SP and he said they sound a bit different, but hip hop producers are like that eh

@sean_ae yeah just wrote about them shutting down in another thread.

haha yes hiphop producers are kinda nuts like that.

it's really freaking cool...a little tough to use for a few technical reasons for the various weird stuff i want to do, but it's one of those instruments that just always sounds unbelievably good. i haven't been using it on my newest stuff and i always look longingly at it sitting in the corner...

@changterhune @TROG

@changterhune i solemnly swear to make some cool music with it as soon as i finish this stupid fucking album!

@sean_ae @TROG

@alisynthesis @changterhune @TROG yeah and the midi implementation on it's really good as well from what i've seen

i almost went for it and then slept on it and then the site went down

but tbh idk how much i'd use it, it would prob be like yours for most of its life, but still worth having ykwim

i would def get a kick out of it (sorry)

@sean_ae its midi implementation is one of the top reasons i love it. you can do pretty much anything you can imagine, and on a per-pad/sample basis. it's unreal, and it has ruined my expectations for other samplers.

also:  dad joke

@changterhune @TROG

@sean_ae @alisynthesis @TROG always a pun lurking, eh, Sean? :D

Yeah I don't need another device nor interface though I keep telling myself I need an MPC style pad array because reasons. But the Push 2 fills most of that. Sigh. I'm gonna covet one now aren't I?

@changterhune @sean_ae @alisynthesis Oh, man! I still have my DR-660! Been meaning to dig it out and set it up again as it has been YEARS. I unpacked it a few years ago only to find that the internal battery needs replacing, but that's not too difficult.
@TROG @sean_ae @alisynthesis yeah I dragged mine out recently & it worked just like the old days including the wonky MIDI in socket that makes syncing both fun and optional! Never got it fixed lol.
@sean_ae @alisynthesis @TROG this track is so good. Reminds me of last night while playing Arc Raiders someone had their chat mic open blaring a story like this as they ran all over the map.
@changterhune @alisynthesis @TROG it's one of the best satires of 70s englishness i've ever heard

@sean_ae as a total dipshit american i can only understand it in reference to the kinks

@changterhune @TROG

@alisynthesis @sean_ae @TROG lol I thought the same thing! Reminded me of when I play the Two Man Gentleman Band for a friend and he said it sounded like the Villager's Green album.

@changterhune @alisynthesis @TROG i have no ref points for this at all
@sean_ae @alisynthesis @TROG Brooklyn hipsters playing at straw boater lads in striped jackets.
@changterhune @alisynthesis @TROG that was just a load of words 🤷‍♂️

@changterhune your friend was incredibly, incredibly wrong about that

@sean_ae @TROG

@alisynthesis @sean_ae @TROG true but it was still funny lol!

@sean_ae @alisynthesis @changterhune That's a great version!

Also, this channel has become active again as of late and has been posting some killer early Ween live shows:

@sean_ae That reminds me: I wore a Ween shirt when we saw y'all in Detroit last year. 😁

@limedilatation oh nice

I saw them at Sheffield Leadmill around that time (or a year or two later(?)) they were really good

@alisynthesis @changterhune @sean_ae Agreed! In my almost 30 years of Weenery, I have found that Ween folk tend to be good folk. Only exception is sometimes when it crosses over into the jam band/"hippy" types. :)

@TROG lol those hippies are notoriously bad eggs

@changterhune @sean_ae

@alisynthesis @TROG @sean_ae LOL. I love how there's memes about Ween fans having the largest numbers of ankle monitors at a concert and the like. In reality like Alison said they're for the most part good folks. THough I shudder to think of those who really tried a Scotchguard bong as depicted on the 2nd album.
