This morning, Israeli forces demolished a house, a car showroom and a shop selling agricultural tools in the village of Al-Zawiya, south of Jenin in the northern West Bank.
Jamal Abu Al-Wafa, head of the village council and owner of the demolished house and car showroom, said he had received a construction stop order two years ago and pursued legal procedures through rights organizations and the courts. However, he said he was surprised on Wednesday morning when Israeli forces stormed his home and forced him to leave in preparation for the demolition.
Abu Al-Wafa said the demolition was carried out without prior warning and that soldiers did not allow him to remove his belongings from the house. He added that he was barely able to move the cars that were inside the showroom.
He noted that the house and showroom covered an area of about 1,000 square meters and were located approximately 65 meters away from the main road, but were still targeted under Israeli demolition policies.
In the same area, just a few meters away, Israeli bulldozers also demolished a shop selling agricultural tools at the entrance to the village.
The shop’s owner, Mohammad Ismail Hantouli, said he had received a construction stop order in 2021 and had appealed through lawyers in Israeli courts, but without success.
Hantouli added that he was unable to remove all the items from the shop before the demolition, and many of them were destroyed during the operation. He also noted that most commercial stores near his shop at the entrance to the village have received either demolition or construction stop orders.
