Fragile, ripetutamente violato dalle parti in queste settimane, scenario in cui Israele sta di fatto preparando una nuova occupazione, eppure esteso nuovamente.
Il cessate il fuoco tra Libano ed Israele , che sarebbe dovuto scadere domenica 26 aprile, è stato esteso per ulteriori tre settimane. L’annuncio è arrivato dal presidente degli Stati Uniti Donald Trump giovedì sera, dopo un incontro a Washington con gli ambasciatori dei rispettivi Paesi e in cui ha annunciato che nelle prossime settimane incontrerà alla Casa Bianca il primo ministro israeliano Benjamin Netanyahu e il presidente libanese Joseph Aoun. Sarebbe un evento di rilevanza quasi storica: prima di questi colloqui i due Paesi non avevano rapporti diplomatici diretti formali da decenni.
La tregua in Libano è stata sempre legata a quella in Iran per la presenza nel “Paese dei cedri” di Hezbollah, il partito-milizia sciita stretto alleato della Repubblica Islamica. Durante la tregua in atto non si sono fermati gli attacchi proprio tra Hezbollah e l’IDF, le forze di difesa israeliane, nel sud del Libano.
Area che è il centro di un futuro accordo tra Israele e Libano: il governo di Beirut, stretto nella non facile situazione di dover contenere al suo interno Hezbollah senza far passare l’eventuale intesa con Israele coma una “resa”, vuole che l’IDF si ritiri dall’area parzialmente occupata da Israele a sud del fiume Litani, mentre il governo Netanyahu spinto dall’estrema destra religiosa punta al contrario ad occupare l’area come “zona cuscinetto” per proteggere i residenti nel nord di Israele.
Il tutto mentre i due Paesi continuano ad accusarsi reciprocamente di violare il cessate il fuoco appena “rinnovato”. L’esercito israeliano ha comunicato stamattina di aver intercettato degli attacchi lanciati dal Libano nella zona di Shtula, vicino alla linea di demarcazione tra i due Paesi, e di aver ucciso tre persone che ha identificato come membri di Hezbollah. Il gruppo filo-iraniano ha confermato di aver lanciato dei razzi, sostenendo però fosse una ritorsione per altri attacchi di Israele.

The ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, which was due to expire Sunday, April 26th, has been extended for another three weeks. The announcement came from US President Donald Trump on Thursday evening, after a meeting in Washington with the ambassadors of the respective countries, and in which he announced that in the coming weeks he would meet at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. It would be a meeting of almost historical significance: before these talks, the two countries had no formal direct diplomatic relations for decades.
The truce in Lebanon has always been linked to one in Iran regarding the presence in the “Cedar Country” of Hezbollah, the Shia party-militia close ally of the Islamic Republic. During the current truce, attacks have not stopped between Hezbollah and the IDF, the Israeli Defense Forces, in southern Lebanon.
An area that is the center of a future agreement between Israel and Lebanon: the Beirut government, caught in a difficult situation of containing Hezbollah within it without allowing the possible agreement with Israel to be seen as an “act of surrender,” wants the IDF to withdraw from the partially occupied area south of the Litani River, while the Netanyahu government, driven by the extreme religious right, instead aims to occupy the area as a “buffer zone” to protect residents in northern Israel.
All this while the two countries continue to accuse each other of violating the just “renewed” ceasefire. The Israeli military announced this morning that it had intercepted attacks launched from Lebanon in the Shtula area, near the demarcation line between the two countries, and that it had killed three people it identified as members of Hezbollah. The Iranian-backed group confirmed that it had launched rockets, however, claiming it was a retaliation for other attacks by Israel.
