“TSA officers just received $0 paychecks. That is simply unacceptable,”
--Letter from airline CEOs to Congress

Wow. That is tough. Maybe someone has some advice on getting through these penurious times.

First idea: The airline CEOs could fill in as TSA agents for awhile?

Second idea: TSA folks could pick up a side hustle - I assume there's jobs aplenty now that immigrants aren't stealing American jobs anymore. </sarcasm>

Having trouble with my sympathy today.

TSA Official Warns ‘We May Have to Quite Literally Shut Down Airports’ If DHS Shutdown Stretches On

DHS said that 366 TSA officers have quit their jobs since the shutdown began in February.

@mmiasma ahahahha get fucked nazis

@mmiasma

Clearly Fed representatives. Congress doing shit.

@mmiasma

Or, you know, we could just... go back to doing airport security in the real, effective ways it used to be done before it got turned into Personal Space Violation Security Theater.

@violetmadder

Well that's just crazy-talk right there... 😆

I stopped flying about six years ago. I don't miss it.

@mmiasma

Right?? 😝

I may never fly again.

@violetmadder

Of course now I'm paying $5/gal and wrecking the environment one tankful at a time so I've got some other guilt issues... 🤷‍♂️

@mmiasma

Moral injury is how they get ya, no ethical consumption under capitalism, complicit in our own oppression and so on.

@violetmadder shame is a fine capitalist tool. the more we downcast our eyes, the harder it is to see the rich pocket our exploitation.

@mmiasma
you know what, fascists, I don't think the trains are running on time either now that you mention it
I will do absolutely nothing to help this situation until Stephen Miller and the Proud Boys are out in the street having to look for real work, hope they like picking fruit and vegetables
@mmiasma they have all the money they need, they will have to take it from ICE's pocket

@mmiasma

less planes, less global warming,

@mmiasma
TSA workers are essential workers who have to work, even without pay?

Didn't you guys have a civil war about banning slavery a few years ago?

@mmiasma Why are they working? Why would they work for no pay?
@mmiasma Or maybe the security process shouldn't be so fucking slow? Having to pull an iPad out of my bag every time I go through security? Partially disrobing to go through a machine that can apparently see right through your clothes? Having to take my shoes off if I opt out of the backscatter machine? All the bullshit about liquids being less than 3 ounces? Maybe if we reduce the security theater, we can make the process faster.

@mlanger

There was a time in my <cough> career where I had to fly all over the U.S. to work on computers for our clients. My carry-on toolkit had many of the same components (soldering iron, wires, crimpers, multi-meter) as bad people who build things that explode. Can you imagine getting through the modern day theater/screening with all that?

I'd probably still be in a TSA screening room somewhere outside of Poughkeepsie.
