I'm learning #Akkadian, and whatever happy neurochemical is prompted by recognizing old friends, I love that seeing a cognate for a term I already know in a different Semitic language triggers the same response.
eqlum = field
Why hello, old חקל!
šemûm
Good to see you again, שמע!
#Hebrew #Aramaic
It's also interesting to recognize cognate *forms* and see how they're different! It took me a while to recognize that the #Akkadian infinitive akālum is cognate to #Hebrew 's infinitive absolute אָכוֹל with expected loss of mimation+case (-um) and sound shifts ā->ō and open a ->ā.
