"Toronto police say they are creating a counter-terrorism unit and a specialized task force that will see officers with semi-automatic rifles stationed at key locations in the city.

The locations include places of worship, tourist attractions, high traffic public spaces and critical infrastructure, police told reporters at a news conference Tuesday.

...[Boss cop Myron] Demkiw said the unit and task force are a response to global conflicts, rising hate crimes, and the risk of violent extremism in Toronto."

@adub BC PDs & RCMP have also been pushing for similar militarized goons on our public streets too. It's a horrible idea, anywhere in Canada. It doesn't make any community feel safer - it has the opposite effect.

The rich want goons. That's what I'm reading. But they want the public to pay for their goon squad, and accept a little intimidation.

There's nothing that says the public needs to put up with it. Or the rich in general.

I have never felt safe in a city with militarized police and weapons. I have only ever heard of these police causing racialized violence themselves, never stopping it.

They should crack down on the fascist clubs Rachel Gilmore helped expose. Do something useful.
