OpenAI shutting down Sora video-creation app

OpenAI will soon shut down its Sora AI video-generation app, the company said in a surprising announcement Tuesday."We’re saying goodbye to Sora," the company wrote in a post on X. "We’ll share more soon, including timelines for the app and API and details on preserving your work."The closure of the resource-intensive AI app comes ahead of an expected initial public stock offering from OpenAI in the coming months.

@cliffwade πŸ€” isn't this just about the app?
Won't people still be able to do the E
Same image/video generation in the chatgpt app?
Don't think it's changing much. They just are removing the place where people were sharing 'openai image/video gen' content with other sora app users, i think?

@thibaultmol Yes, just as the title says. It's still one less AI Slop generator we have.

And hopefully this is just the beginning of Sora going away in a bigger way.

@cliffwade I hate ai video/image gen as much as other people on fedi, but I'm not sure that the sora app going to change the amount of slop being generated and getting shoved on socials/sites tbf.
People will just move to the chatgpt app.
I dunno, maybe it's just my vibe of this move but I don't think there's much to it

@thibaultmol Sure, you're right. But that's not really what this is referring to. If we can get rid of one, we can get rid of others, because it's clear the consumers don't want this as much as these companies make everyone to believe.

Sora is just a start. Let's get rid of them one by one and eventually get back to a sense of normalness.

@cliffwade I'm so sorry, I need to apologise!
I somehow read over the fact that they're fully shutting down AI video. I thought they were specifically just shutting down the app keeping the video generation in chatgpt and via the API.
But no, they're stopping ai video generation! Amazing news yeah

Sorry, again

@thibaultmol No need to apologize. I didn't catch it at first either as it was worded as if it were just the app, but thankfully it's more.

Great start and hopefully many more shutdown and go away.
