OpenAI shutting down Sora video-creation app

OpenAI will soon shut down its Sora AI video-generation app, the company said in a surprising announcement Tuesday."We’re saying goodbye to Sora," the company wrote in a post on X. "We’ll share more soon, including timelines for the app and API and details on preserving your work."The closure of the resource-intensive AI app comes ahead of an expected initial public stock offering from OpenAI in the coming months.

@cliffwade Interesting perspective — though I'd argue the market will ultimately decide what's "slop" versus useful innovation. Curious if you think this signals broader AI video tool consolidation ahead?

@newsgroup I'm really not sure if it signals that or not. Hopefully?

I think we're definitely nearing the point where these companies are starting to finally accept that the consumer really doesn't want this AI stuff as much as they have led everyone to believe and that things will slow down and slow begin to shrink, hopefully.

@cliffwade I can agree with you; right now, AI is a bit too much. Although sometimes it helps to escape from the routine, in a global sense, there is a bit of a problem.

@newsgroup There is definitely good use of AI. There's no question about that. When it comes art, graphics and similar, there's almost always never a good use for it in that aspect of things and that's where it really needs to go away and stop being used.

Therefore, Sora shutting down the app is just one small step in the right direction of things.
