Former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad has stated that he played a role in the release of American citizen Dennis Coyle, who had been held in Islamic Emirate custody for more than a year.

Khalilzad expressed appreciation for the role of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates in the process, noting that these countries contributed significantly by facilitating visits with Coyle, supporting his release, and providing logistical assistance.

He described Coyle’s release as a positive step and emphasized that it could help pave the way for resolving other cases, while adding that further work and efforts are still needed.
