Back in my day you had to boot up your whole computer and log into a website to do that stuff.

You can also leave them in sleep mode instead of powered off, in which case they'll be ready almost instantly.
Except the monitor, which for some damn reason takes like 5 seconds to wake up now. WTF is that nonsense. Powering up an LCD and negotiating with the GPU should take microseconds, shouldn't it?

Yeah, and at least the CRT had the excuse of needing to warm up the emitter.
LCDs have no such excuse. Laptop screens are on and fully bright before I even finish opening the lid, even if they've been off for a day. But desktop computer monitors, despite using the same technology, for reasons unknown, take a long time to turn on.
@argv_minus_one @existentialcomics I've got one LCD that can take a couple of seconds, but it's multi-input, so takes a moment to work out which one is being used
