Armed conflict is not a sports game.

You don’t need to pick a side.

You can also oppose one government without supporting the government that declares war on said government.

You can also, and I know this is a big stretch, oppose a third government in the conflict!

You can declare solidarity with all the people in the region who aren’t murdering thieving assholes.

You can call for mitigating a bad situation without that being a declaration of support for the whole mess.

Resistance to foreign invasion is not a pledge of undying loyalty to domestic autocrats.
Bombing a country does not help leftist movements for democracy and minority rights.
Installing a monarchy? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? NO!
Support for an economic system does not obligate you to support every murdering thieving asshole who stuck that label on their autocratic government.
The only political stance that deserves unwavering adherence is the universal application of human rights, requiring opposition to genocide no matter who the victims and aggressors are.
@akareilly Excellent thread. Altogether beautifully stated. Thank you. ✌️🤘🖖

@akareilly

war is a goal not a means

@akareilly I always recommend to read descriptions of the Afghanistan of the late 60s and early 70s.

@akareilly Especially when those doing the bombing target the homes of pro-democracy opposition activists and fighters.

Anyone who thinks TRUMP is going to stop hangings, machinegunning of protesters, or torture in Iran by reinstalling a Shah has never heard of SAVAK. SAVAK's torture and brutality were why there was that famous Time magazine phone of "a policeman" being executed by a well-deserved firing squad back in 1979 after the last Shah was overthown.

The US, who had installed the Shah to overthrow a democracy that had nationalized oil back in 1954, gave asylum to the Shah as he fled the wrath of the people. THIS was why those students captured and held the entire staff of the US Embassy! All those "America Held Hostage" news reports that ran when I was 14 never told viewers about SAVAK, about the torture and brutality, and how the Shah had ordered it all.

AmeriKKKa must be thrown out and kept out of Iran and every other place they have tried to colonize. Had they never gone in, Iran would probably now be an over 60 year old democracy.

With all the intentional bombing of civilian areas, it's no wonder that Iran's opposition movements have turned against Trump. Monarchists safely watching the war from their couches in the US have no such concerns of course.

@akareilly totally agree.
The Iranain government are disgusting and abhorrent, but I am.stiil preferring then to persevere over the us who are more disgusting and abhorrent
@akareilly n-n-n-n-nuance?? On the internet???
