❗️An #Irish refinery of alumina (used to make aluminum) has been sending most of its exports to #Russia, and then they were used to make weapons to kill #Ukrainians.
This was reported in an investigation by Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project.
I hope this case gets the attention and follow-up from the authorities.
#Aughinish_Alumina has increased its exports of alumina to #Russian smelters.
After arriving in #Russia, the alumina is processed into aluminum, then sold on until they reach #Russian weapons manufacturers.
#EU has not introduced restrictions on alumina exports to #Russia, although #EU member states were urged to stockpile alumina themselves - it is very important for industry and defence.
