Like many in the UK, I'm dismayed every time I see the plague of St. George's Cross (flag of England) that nationalists have been hanging on lamp posts on recent years.

So it gave me great joy to see that this lamp post had recently acquired a (larger!) pride flag. πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

If we're going to become a country that hangs flags everywhere... I'd much rather that they be flags that speak of inclusivity and diversity. ❀️

It is good to see Flagshaggers PLC being besten at their own game πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ˜ˆ

@dan I wonder if half these asshats even know who Saint George was or that he is heavily associated with a number of other countries and widely venerated. I've been to several churches dedicated to Saint George here in Serbia and am actually visiting one today.

@dan

It's not even really an English flag.

It was borrowed from the Republic of Genoa as a flag of convenience for English ships in medieval times πŸ€”πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

@simonzerafa @dan This is why I love Mastodon - to find out St. George flag was actually flag of Genoa. And English at one time paid a tribute to Genoa to use it.

@SCampbell @dan

It's the modern equivalent of using Panama or some other ship registry as a flag of convenience πŸ˜‚

What's needed are double-sided flags so we can fool half the gammons immediatly and annoy all of them when they discover the trick 😁

@dan still baffles me that British nationalists want to fly a Genoa flag
