Should all public libraries have a #Mastodon server for all their patrons to have an account, administered by one of the geek librarians? They already offer computer and internet access. It would just be one more service that a library card also offers.

I think that would unnecessarily proliferate servers. And many libraries don't have anyone geeky enough to run a Mastodon server.

And of course, you can make a Mastodon account on any open server, and log in whenever you happen to be at the library.
It isn't necessary for the library to make a special, dedicated server in order to allow Mastodon access.

@Kathmandu one nice benefit of having the librarians involved, is that they *already* look at people's IDs before issuing a library card. Maybe there could be different Mastodon servers, based on the patron's age, and the librarians give accounts out based on age (maybe have a youth-only #Mastodon server, with different, age-suitable moderation policy). **So the librarians do the age verifying, not the Operating System.**
