The Lord of the Rings Trilogy 4k Extended Edition
Yeah, this has been available for 5 years now, but it was god-awful expensive, and I didn't really have a home theater setup to take advantage of it, so my original Blu Rays had been fine.
But, the boxed set finally had a decent sale, and with our new OLED Dolby Atmos home setup I took the plunge.

First off, at 12 hours, this is really 6 movies now. fortunately the extended edition set does break each movie into two clean parts, so it makes it easier to watch. What is really surprising so far is none of the additional 168 minutes of footage feels like fluff. The added scenes instead provide some additional depth to the characters and story that would make it hard to go back to the theatrical versions.

Second, with the right TV and sound system, this remains a stunning set of films. Watching the 4k UHD editions is like seeing them for the first time all over again.
Should be a fun week.
