18%? What is this? A pay rise for ants?

Victorian teachers want a 35% pay rise to bring them up to what teachers are paid in other states.

Its disgusting that the government takes advantage of how much teachers care about teaching the next generation.

"The government responded with a 18.5% pay offer .. This offer included an 8% pay rise for teachers and 4% for education staff to come into effect in April, followed by a 3% rise for each of the following three years, as well as a 1.5% overtime allowance."

It has a small "kick" for teachers above inflation - the rest will be roughly inflation rate - means no further increase of real wages.

But we can't have any discussion that omits the other side: Taxes. States depend on Canberra.

@petros States can tax land and we could tax land a lot more than we currently do.
But also, plenty of money in the budget for teachers.

They only pay teachers less because they expect teachers to work for the love of it and so many do.

Different discussion, but we should absolutely be moving to a land tax system like the ACT. The current model is ridiculous.
