I was out door-knocking with the Victorian Socialists in Broadmeadows this afternoon.

Lots of interesting conversations with people in the area. Many people that said "I'm not really in to politics" that were very in to politics when asked what they are concerned about and what is important to them.

Liberals Promise To Rip Up Homes And Lock Young Victorians Out

Today we announced how we’ll get more homes built in suburbs close to trains and trams. It’s part of our plan to help deliver 300,000 homes close to jobs, transport, schools and services by 2051. Jess Wilson’s Liberals didn’t hesitate. They “guaranteed” they would “rip up” these reforms – tearing homes away from young Victorians. They want to drag Victoria back to the same broken system that has locked up well-connected suburbs for 30 years.

It's funny to see the Victorian Farmers Federation advocating for free public transport and more frequent public transport services.

Tap and go fares to be enabled on Craigieburn, Upfield, Ballarat, and Seymour lines in a trial to confuse the masses.

(I don't know the particulars. IE. Footscray is on the Ballarat Line, and the City Loop is on the Craigieburn and Upfield lines. Can a traveller from Footscray to the City Loop use tap and go? Who knows).

Ticketless travel trial set to start in Victoria

From Monday, Victorians will be able to use phones and credit cards to pay for public transport on a small number of lines as part of a trial.

I had a friend buying a house and getting a building inspection as a buyer is just silly. It could be thousands of dollars and the outcome could be that you end up not buying the place and have to do it all over again for the next place. It's also awkward to do until you're really far in to the buying process, have already paid a deposit and where only major deflects will get you out of the sale.

Is every bidder going to pay thousands to get an inspection of a property before an auction? That's ridiculous so you end up having to sign a contract to buy a property before you can get an inspection of it.

Allan government plans to make vendors fund building and pest reports

The Victorian government says it will make home sellers pay for building and pest inspections rather than home buyers if it wins this year's state election in November.

If this turns out to be a malicious private prosecution by the (arguably deranged) Council Watch group, the Local Government Act ought be amended to remove the need for councillors to step aside in such circumstances.

Councillor stood down as individual launches private prosecution

A central Victorian council says it has stood down a councillor after an individual served "alleged criminal charges" on both the councillor and CEO intending to pursue a private prosecution.

As if to almost demonstrate my previous toot's point:

There's nothing "contentious" about the SRL. There's a media campaign by 9fax and News Corp in conjunction with the Liberal Party, but polling shows the SRL is received as overwhelmingly positive:

Contentious Melbourne rail project makes priority infrastructure list

Australia's top infrastructure body has placed Melbourne's Suburban Rail Loop project on the highest priority list for the nation despite raising serious concerns about its business case merely a year ago.

I suppose you have to be Jewish to get any real action.

Dude can walk into an Iftar dinner, assault people, shout death threats, racism, etc, and Ballarat pigs will just tell the Nazi perpetrator (check those tattoos with banned symbols) to 'move on'.

This just means people are going to arm themselves, because the cops clearly aren't going to help Muslims in our community:

Police shortage causes station closure

"It is a reality Victoria Police has a significant number of vacancies, and we must put our valuable resources where they have the biggest impact,” Inspector Madden said."

It's fun to pretend that there is a shortage of police when we, in fact, have too many police.
Victoria has the most police per capita of any state in Australia.

We don't have a shortage of police.

Police shortage causes station closure

Staff shortages are behind the decision to close Williamstown Police Station for two weeks. Late last month Victoria Police announced that Williamstown station would close temporarily from Sunday 8 March to Monday 23 March, having earlier announced that reception hours at the station would be reduced. In a Facebook post on 23 February, police announced [...]
