Since systemd-260 and later have been tainted by the slopmongers, and Linus won’t ban LLM-laundered contributions to the Linux kernel, I guess it’s time to resume hacking on the “initd” that I started putting together for NetBSD…

Don't worry, I'm not Lennart; I won’t insist on initd doing everything for everyone. It should just be about service activation, like launchd. Mach-style IPC would be an entirely separate project, as would an updated logging system…
@eschaton the launchd style of things never offended me as being the anti-unix-christ.
@eschaton and this is me, a primary author of netbsd rc.d :-)
@mrgtwentythree Even systemd itself didn’t strike me that way, only the aggregation of so many other things into it.
@mrgtwentythree Incidentally, a similar kind of aggregation with XPC is why launchd stopped being Open Source: A bunch of stuff was integrated into it for expedience, then oops! It would be too much work to abstract and extract the parts that can’t be shared, so the whole thing is just closed now! Sorry!
@eschaton the only killer feature you need (for me :) is a restart policy
@eschaton I really thought Linus was smarter than this and I think he's making a huge mistake. I'm calling it now, within five years there will be a major court case and it will be decided in favor of corporations and all sorts of open source software that got tainted by this crap will have their licenses invalidated overnight.
@aburka Indeed. It’s incredible to see how willingly people are talking themselves into absolute *idiocy* when it comes to this stuff.
@eschaton Hi Chris! I'm a Linux noob running Cachy OS and it has fixed my old PC's. I don't know what is going on with systemd age verification. Not a fan as I'm a single guy with no kids living alone in his mid 40's. Let me say this, I will fight to the death with my purple belt to keep fascists off my personal computers!!! Curious about your work with NetBSD, and not a fan of AI either.
