WTH is this scam? all links seem legit and email headers check out atleast based on my cursory check...

#phishing #scam or I am overreacting? I did login to paypal on another device, changed the password and checked... there actually is $0.02 USD sitting in my account. This paypal account is not actively used. it gets used may be once or twice a year when I have to send cash to my nephews for their christmas presents or similar. there are no transactions in my back or CC accounts that I do not recognize. I am keep an eye on those on daily basis.

@Rajiv This may be someone trying to link their account to some other system and they use the amount for verification. For example, I had a system deposit a couple of pennies into my bank account, and then I had to tell that other system how many deposits and how many pennies. Kinda like a one-time password, but with an ACH transaction.

If you didn't do this, checks with family members, then your bank. It could be that someone else got an account number wrong.

@Xavier welp... that' one mystery solved. question is, how does giving me $0.02 further the scam? trying to get refund somehow? I need to read up on paypal scams...
@Rajiv No clue how those small transfers fit into a scam. I just know that a validation check common in fintech apps.
