Chromebooks for everyone in schools was probably one of the worst ideas anyone in Canadian education has ever had. As well as the obvious 'Google is a complete privacy nightmare and will do anything for a dollar', the whole distraction thing is insane. They can lock down certain things over the network, but there's still plenty of distraction to find. On top of that, handwriting? Who needs that?! Again, we sacrifice our kids education to line the pockets of US tech companies. #canpol
Constantly having to tell my kid to put the Chromebook away, to close it, to pay attention in class rather than staring into it.. to be present in the room. Those things are an absolute disaster for education. The government virtue signals by banning mobile phones in schools, yet continues to kit kids out with Chromebooks instead. The environmental impact of these things, the financial impact on schools, the damage to education and all the money flowing out to the US .. madness.
Now throw AI into the mix (which is also *encouraged* in schools) and you've got an entire generation being told that they need a computer to function or even *think*. Just ask AI on your Chromebook, bud! The people making these decisions about education must be on glue. Cutting budgets for qualified education workers and spending millions on Chromebooks and AI instead. Schools don't need staff I suppose, as we won't be educating for much longer. Just plug kids into GPT on Chromebooks, job done.
@psychicparrot42 I'm past the point of thinking people aren't dumb enough to fall for this sh1t. Almost everyone is far too dumb. The kids will be and, criminally, adults in politics & management are plainly dumb and/or corrupt as all f*ck. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️
