I assume this would Marke it illegal in EU (GDPR) and i would need to look für other distros if they implement it.
Ejner Borgbjerg@kmj isn't it systemd that decided to implement it? And as such, it would be forced upon Debian, but not on freebsd?

@kmj it’s under discussion for #freebsd. But making official statements that refuse to implement laws — no matter how asinine — are like putting a big financial target on projects that are not equipped to fund long term legal cases. Do you have a spare million to not spend on software development?
@dch I see the problem #californa causes for the world, so it would maybe better to adopt Open Source licenses not only desktop to forbid the usage in California. If alot of software developers would do this, then there is no legal case for the project, the developers or organizations would be protected and seeing how much Open Source is used I assume there would be pretty fast "light out" in california. Politicans seeing they loose next election would immeditely cancel this law.
haunted signifier@kmj aiui, what's being added is the possibility to record a user's date of birth in systemd - what would make that illegal under the GDPR? if you don't want to be a data controller, can't you simply choose not to record your users' dates of birth?
