How the HELL can it be the case that in 2026, for a DIRECT #CrossBorderRail connection between two major European cities - Torino 🇮🇹 and Paris 🇫🇷 - it's not possible to work out why the hell there are half the normal number of trains, and on Saturday 6th June seemingly NONE - and this is like 75 days before departure

FFS 😡

When I hear from rail lobbyists that everything with the railways would be fine, if only kerosene for planes were taxed, or buses paid more tolls on motorways, and you have stuff like this and it's obviously total and utter 💩

Railways in so many places in Europe cannot get the basic shit together. Cannot do the simple stuff, like explaining disruptions

#CrossBorderRail

And of course Alberto Mazzola - boss of Brussels based state railways lobby CER - is never going to see this, despite being Italian and theoretically needing to take the Paris-Torino train

Because he will FLY to Italy, rather than taking the train (having been on webinars with him when he was at airports)

#CrossBorderRail

@jon
Maybe we should force everyone in the commission and the parliament to travel by train and ferry instead of flying for some time?

#CrossBorderRail

@oneiros @jon they are not the one booking the tickets and by their status, have huge privileges (flex business tickets at last minute)
so no it won't help that much

@hypha @oneiros Right.

I did have the wacky idea of organising a “European championship of rail booking” and stream it. To show how stupidly hard some of this is!

@jon @hypha @oneiros Uh, I'd love to participate! I use cross-europe trains a lot for business trips, so finally all these hours spent booking sensible connections will pay off in the tournament finals
@jon of course right now busses and airplanes have to pay a lot more fuel than last year. Are the rail companies using the opportunity to grab market share? (Rhetorical question...)
No, they're not. Were they had more willingness, then they would often be unable to do so. Because lacking rolling-stock.
At the very least, TI could ask for diversion via Grenoble, calling at LYS ✈️ @[email protected] @[email protected]
