every so often someone posts one of those arcology concept arts from the 40s or 50s-- the ones where we all live in giant apartment compounds connected by highways with no nature-- and people laugh at how absurd they seem. but i feel like most of the modern nobility are still secretly really into the idea
i think 'arcology' might be a misnomer here but im not exactly sure what the correct term would be
@emaytch i mean, "The Line" seems to be to me pretty much that
@ratsnakegames yeah i feel like i'm kind of just stating an obvious fact if you pay attention to the kind of pet projects of this class-- certainly i was also thinking of Musk's hyperloop, google's smart cities, etc
@emaytch I met someone who, along with their partner, dropped everything to try one out somewhere in Brazil, and another similar concept, unaffiliated with the ownership of the one in Brazil is (potentially) still running in Costa Rica I believe they said. The one in Brazil closed after over a year, but they had living spaces, creative spaces and a club and bar where performances could be shown (and lots of drinking and dancing ofc).
@emaytch do you have an example? I’m curious what they look like
@jason i have been trying to find some since before posting this! but i'm not sure exactly what terms to search for to find it-- so far i've mostly come up empty
@emaytch The apartment compounds probably have a grocery within walkable distance,
