I am dying laughing… If if were not sad…

> The entire F-35 doctrine, the single most expensive weapons programme in human history, rests on the assumption that the aircraft is invisible to radar. Someone forgot to tell the Iranians the planes were invisible.

March, 19-21: God is a comedian

A stiff drink is recommended

Gold and Geopolitics

Jesus christ on a stick…

> They were lying by a factor of two, which, in the context of ballistic missile capabilities, constitutes what experts call “a very bad surprise”. Rome, Paris, and London are now within the theoretical strike envelope. The British gave permission for Diego Garcia to be used for strikes against Iran and discovered that the Iranian response could, if Tehran felt creative, arrive at Heathrow.

Kicker at the end, after spitting all the hard facts.

> It is an equally well-established fact that the best response to the universe's sense of humour is a stiff drink, a comfortable chair, and the quiet confidence that eventually, even the universe runs out of material.

Best read in a while.

@rotnroll666 And as always some dude who uses Strava on an aircraft carrier. Good job!
@s2b As a recovering Strava addict, it never ceases to amaze me. The privacy controls are not that hard to enable… Maybe one need more than half a brain cell to realize setting a home zone of 500 meter doesn't do it on a moving aircraft carrier, but what would I know about that?
@rotnroll666 I would have imagined that there were some operational security measures on such a ship that prevent this, like „no private devices allowed“ or „no public wifi“ and some jamming technology. 🤷🏼‍♂️
@s2b I guess that's hard call, without kidding. These people are for weeks / months "alone" from home. I would think 100% restrictions would be detrimental towards keeping a functional environment up.

@rotnroll666 But it should be possible to pipe everything through „official“ channels, shouldn‘t it? 🤔

But I‘m not an expert and I would also enjoy Netflix on a big boat. 😄

@rotnroll666 @s2b IF the Strava app is secure at all and those privacy settings can't easily be bypassed.
@rotnroll666 Yeah, love this author. What an absolute global clusterfuck this is turning into!
@rotnroll666 On an impressively long stick.

@rotnroll666 This is about as dumb as previous insane tyrannical dictators fighting a land war in Russia in winter.

It's baffling that The Orange Danger hasn't been removed from office. By any means necessary.

@elricofmelnibone That other person wasn't removed at that point either. Feels like nobody is learning shit from history.
@rotnroll666 @elricofmelnibone same is valid for Putin and his "3 days invasion" in Ukraine.
@rotnroll666
I wish I could come up with metaphors like these.

@rotnroll666 A week or so ago I thought it was certain that the US and Europe would just give up and buy Russian oil and gas if they can get it, and sure enough "This week, the US Treasury lifted all oil sanctions on Iran. For 30 days. 140 million barrels of Iranian crude, sitting on ships at sea, may now be sold freely on the global market. Including to the United States itself. In yuan. [..] In the same OFAC filing, Russian oil sanctions were lifted as well. And Belarus potash too [..]"

Have not seen that one in the news anywhere over here.

US lifts sanctions on some Iranian oil as energy prices soar

The treasury secretary says the move will quickly bring about 140m barrels of oil to global markets.
