In March around the time the almond trees flower the vineyards slowly awaken and work restarts with trimming the twigs and tilling the ground.

@fedops americans are either too lazy or too smart to fall for the 'speed the plow' propaganda, this may explain the resurgence of 'no-till' agriculture #moral erosion #turpitude #factory farms #subsidies

@gary_alderson I'm watching the no-till/no-dig movements with interest.

In my mind controlling weeds by mechanical means, around the actual crop, is better than the options (which are mostly chemical). OTOH a lot of wine farmers just leave the space between the rows as a wildflower strip now and that also works for a few years at least. Then when it gets out of hand tilling once resets it.

@fedops it can help soil loss quite a bit but tilling and plowing can be helpful also, farming is an evolving vocation; you have to be rich to do it (1m is just a starting point) #gentleman farmer
@fedops farms get massive subsidies and on top of that most of their labor is illegal, add in pesticides and pfas and consolidation (big Ag policies) and farms looks like a bad deal plus there is a negative side - farmers have 3x suicide rate of the normal population, lots of pressure #stagger lee
@fedops According to recent data from organizations like the National Rural Health Association, farmers are approximately 3.5 times more likely to die by suicide than the general population #pto dangers
