I've linked to the time code where the error happens.

It's possible to tell that the video is AI generated, but something about how it breaks down here is very disturbing. No one in the comments seemed to notice.

I was scrubbing around trying find out what article they asked the AI to summarize to make this.

Anyway here is the creepy moment.

BREAKING Impeachment Articles FILED as Trump THREATENS Federal Judge

YouTube
I don't care if you say I sound like a scared villager. The machine is stealing people's souls and I do not like it.
The people who thought cameras could steal your soul are feeling very smug right now. And what can I say to them?
@futurebird most of them are dead so you might need a Ouija board. Could be fun. Fedi seance has potential.

@futurebird i'm puzzled about the audience though, it's a lot of talking, that requires significant attention to follow and get the message from, so you'd expect to only get through to people willing to pay that attention.

But at the same time, the speech pattern is weird, and there are some visual glitches (for example, when the avatar moves back and reveals more of the background next to his neck), that these people would pick?

This must have cost some money to produce, it's very very long.

@futurebird When I look at the people who are photographed the most, I start to think the “cameras steal part of your soul” people were on to something.
@futurebird Souls live in the same building as luminiferous aether, caloric fluid, Santa Claus, and Jesus
@futurebird Yikes. I was expecting some sort of brief error, not this extended glitch (complete with extra hand movements!).

@futurebird

this is *so* specifically constitutionally alarming!

@futurebird It is very constitutionally alarming indeed!

I suspect at least some of the comments may be #GenAI bots too but Youtube commentors do notoriously pause or stop videos to comment before watching the whole thing. Sometimes the YouTube comments sound like they are based on the thumbnail and video title alone

@futurebird
Holy crap.
I'm gratified nobody has mentioned it in the comments (yet) for that would be just another source of nourishment for the cyborg.

@snork303

Yes. I don't want to help them to make it any better. No, I'm downloading this one.

And such a nice automated voice, what young man's voice and face did they steal?

@futurebird the description:

"Over 10,000 readers get real political news from PUMP Politics. No spin, no fluff, just the truth.

[...]

This content is fictional and not intended to represent real events, individuals, or outcomes."

I can't even. This is so constitutionally alarming.

@stragu

It's more wild because the content is so damn dry. It sounds like he's reading a real article. What in the heck are they doing?

I mean, they got me to some degree. I would enjoy if a nice young man would please read me the paper while I clean the bathroom and vacuum the living room. This video was in my suggestions so they know I like political news.

But... you know real news with a journalist who is writing about things that happened.

@stragu @futurebird

down at the bottom of the "description" is a category "how this was made"

@futurebird

This like a 1960s movie robot glitch! 😆

Next he'll hear something illogical and smoke will come out of his ears.

@futurebird but it's so specifically constitutionally alarming

@futurebird

If you repeat it enough times, it becomes reality?

@futurebird I started checking this in public transport in mute because I thought it was a visual thing and was worried I couldn't spot the slop but now that I'm home looooooool
@[email protected] I think that proves two things. First, that the people who have made this video online themselves have not checked it, have not curated it. And secondly, that the people who are watching it, only watch the beginning, if at all.

RE: https://sauropods.win/@futurebird/116272840734165707

@futurebird Well look at that... I do wonder what the end game with this video is? Make people feel like something is being done to stop the criminal in office so they don't go out and demand something be done?

@georgelenzer

I think they just want to rack up views... but without the work of making real content, or paying anyone to do anything.

@futurebird What the ACTUAL FUCK

Also, uncanny valley big time. They fucked up the blink rate and it can't get microexpressions at all. Nice touch with the ring light reflection, though.

Also apparently my gut level "kill it with fire" reaction to generated voices is milder with speech than song, mostly because I used to play with the text to speech thing on my Mac SE when I was a kid and got used to the tones; it still sounds like that to me.

@futurebird i've seen this kind of issues with autodubing too, there is a german youtuber that used to do english versions of his videos, but gave up because of the effort/reward not being worth it, and he switched to AI dubbing as an experiment, for those of us who still want to follow his channel.

Sometimes it's atrocious like this, but we know what we are getting, he didn't try to hide it.

This is different though as indeed it's extremely misleading.

@futurebird outside the creepy repetition it just feels so easy to not notice it's ai nowadays if you aren't paying a ton of attention to the video, i don't like any of that, why are we inventing fake people with the machine of lies like it's nothing

@futurebird

More creepiness during the last couple minutes: the already excessive eye blinks suddenly become very unnatural, like they're happening in reverse.

@futurebird

"Specifically constitutionally alarming!" the Bellman cried,
As he landed his crew with care;
Supporting each man on the top of the tide
By a finger entwined in his hair.

"Specifically constitutionally alarming! I have said it twice:
That alone should encourage the crew.
Specifically constitutionally alarming! I have said it thrice:
What I tell you three times is true."

@tang0008 @futurebird there's also a part before the breakdown where you can see the eyes don't quite match the movement of the head. It feels like a slight misalignment in a screen print, but creepy.
