This made me lol because it's 100% accurate of me.

@InsiderTreat Me, not understanding anything at 8: how does it fly?

Me, understanding aerodynamics and physics and mechanical engineering and harmonics at 30: how does it fly?

@rotopenguin me spending 6 years flying them: how does it fly?

@InsiderTreat

Might be me if I didn't live right under a helicopter flight path

@gbargoud it'd probably still be me lol

@InsiderTreat

Relatable, although living in LA for awhile may cure this.

I once counted 7 helicopters hovering, from my backyard. I presume something interesting was happening on the nearby highway interchange. Noisy!

@TerryHancock I'd probably just sit around all day watching them and get nothing done.
@InsiderTreat local hospital has a helipad on the roof and every time lifeflight lands or takes off everyone in the area stops and watches lol
@InsiderTreat Yes, but also planes if I hear them. Just that they are usually too fast. So looking at a helicopter is enjoyable for a longer time.
@InsiderTreat slightly different here. at 8yo i didnt have flightradar24, ill often check that now
@InsiderTreat Me watching the helicopters practicing autorotation at a nearby testing area.
@InsiderTreat
Alt text saved me bc I was definitely puzzled...
:)

@InsiderTreat In another life, I would have definitely worked in aviation. Being high up in the sky is truly a magical place.
@InsiderTreat Also planes flying on sufficiently low altitude.

Me now... <checks website to see who it is>

Helicopters just look cool.

@InsiderTreat I live in a place where a certain tire company Zeppelin flys over occasionally. It is quieter than the old blimps of yesteryear. I always run for the door to gawk when I hear it.

Edit: some sort of self correct changed blimp to glimpse. There. I fixed it.

@InsiderTreat This just proves that we never get past a certain mentality, no matter the age.
@InsiderTreat we get a lot of big helis with 'no callsign' flying over these days
@Viss I assume coming and going from Coronado?
@InsiderTreat pendleton
@Viss oh yeah I always forget that's out there too.
@InsiderTreat it was going boom like wow yesterday. musta been those rocket fired mine clearing charges
@InsiderTreat they do all sorts of weird shit there. its 1 of the 2 basic training sites in the US. ill see comanches fly over occasionally. almost always sea knights or blackhawks tho. rarely a privately owned huey tho. and i can tell em all apart by sound at this point. i can even clock the sd county sherriffs with my earballs
@Viss oh yeah when I lived near base I got pretty good at telling them apart. There's still some that are unmistakable to me. The Chinook is an easy one.
@InsiderTreat oof yeah you can hear those for miiiiiles
