Interview: "Republicans are singularly focused on making it harder to vote".

Trump's SAVE Act targets women, poor, rural & trans voters.

"Millions of citizens who lack easy access to required forms of documentation are now at risk of disenfranchisement."

Groups most at risk include people who've changed their names; older voters who never received birth certificates; & rural voters who may face difficulties with registering to vote.

Disenfranchise Tens of Millions? Trump’s SAVE Act Targets Women, Poor, Rural & Trans Voters

Experts are calling it “the worst voter suppression bill ever seriously considered by Congress.” As the U.S. Senate prepares to vote on a Trump-backed voter ID bill known as the SAVE Act, millions of citizens who lack easy access to its required forms of documentation are now at risk of disenfranchisement. “Republicans are singularly focused on making it harder to vote and pursuing this MAGA fever dream,” explains Ari Berman, national voting rights correspondent for Mother Jones. “It is the overarching goal of the Republican Party now to make it harder to vote.” The groups most at risk of disenfranchisement include people who have changed their names after marriage, older voters who never received birth certificates, rural voters who could find it increasingly difficult to register to vote and trans people who have changed their names or gender markers on government documents. The GOP and MAGA movement’s goal, says Imara Jones, the founder and CEO of TransLash Media, “is to enshrine anti-trans discrimination in the law, because what they’re doing is using trans people as a road test in order to try to figure out how to disenfranchise and marginalize and strip citizenship away from millions of Americans who disagree with them.”

Democracy Now!
@DrALJONES Reps ~are~ singularly focused on making it harder to vote.
But it seems corporate Dems are singularly focused on making it useless to vote. 😔

@MySideIsHumanity

Yes, exactly. They have been for decades. What happens when the same oligarchs own both parties.

@DrALJONES Apologies if it's old news… this hit hard, around the same time I finally gave up on the Uniparty.

Study: Congress literally doesn’t care what you think

I had no idea how bad things actually were until I saw one simple graph.

Please don't apologise for sharing info. I just happen to be old enough to have followed the far right and neoliberalism since the 60s... 🙂

Thanks for the link. I'll take a look

@DrALJONES I used to think it would be an irrefutable magic solution to convincing color-coded partisans, and would try to keep them thinking about it by listening to their responses and trying to redirect them back to the point made by the study.

But considering how often it eventually ended in "If you don't support [color], you're one of the evil [other color]s!", I decided I liked my brain cells too much to keep doing that to them. 😉

@MySideIsHumanity @DrALJONES

It was the Pied Piper Strategy, and Dems spending millions of dollars on MAGA republican campaigns, that I thought would show people once and for all that they're colluding.

I've spent the years since 2016 in a state of bewildered shock that anyone actually still swallows this shit.

@violetmadder @DrALJONES Oh, but I thought "Let's flood the primary with candidates no one's ever heard of, then have them all bow out in sync to crown the 4th-place DINO" was a very-believably-spontaneous act in 2020. (/bitter sarcasm) 🥴

@MySideIsHumanity @DrALJONES

Well what would I know anyway, I'm a dirty dirty 3rd party voter, I'm supposed to be hanging my head in shame in some dark corner somewhere instead of still here asking everyone why we are still participating in these SAW games?

@MySideIsHumanity @DrALJONES
Color coded? Well, if you ever see a fighter plane with red and black roundels on the wings and three arrows on the tail...

Watching 303 squadron (movie) now, about Polish escapee fighter pilots in 1940 keeping their fight going from the UK and blowing Nazis out of the sky. Laughed my ass off at that Nazi scum who tangled with them, barely managed to land his smoking aircraft, and roaring like hell had to be helped out of the cockpit with a big ol' bullet hole in his leg.

Ironically I myself had to fight my body all the way home on Nov 14 2020 after being seriously wounded in a solo engagment against a half dozen Proud Boys after that huge battle against 20,000 Fascist thugs in DC that day. My housemate told me I almost went down getting out of the car. I had gotten kicked down over a curb after charging them on the bike when they blocked my escape route. Split the muscle on outside of left leg, hip barely held together, whole upper leg pressurized with leaking blood. I was told clots from that could kill me outright if they broke loose.

That was about an hour after that big knife fight that blocked the Proud Boys from marching on and destroying Black Lives Matter Plaza. A month later (Dec 12 2020), I was back in action, this time in plates and a helmet.

@DrALJONES @MySideIsHumanity Decades is right! Ralph Nader observed that there was only one corporate party, with two heads - he called it the 'duopoly.' That was in the '70s, even before he founded Public Citizen.
The big kerfuffel then was over the public financing of elections bill that Congress passed after Nixon's Watergate scandal. The Supreme Court overturned it in its 1976 Buckley v. Valeo ruling, enshrining the "Money = Speech" doctrine by which oligarchy replaced democracy.

@PttP @DrALJONES @MySideIsHumanity

And Hunter S Thompson was already thoroughly sick of it and wondering how many more rounds of this "lesser evil" game we'd have to suffer through IN NINETEEN SEVENTY FUCKING THREE.

@violetmadder @PttP @DrALJONES For that matter, Upton Sinclair was skewering this game in 1906 (The Jungle).

Modernize the language, and it would sound like 2016.

@MySideIsHumanity @DrALJONES we're organizing a #GreenParty chapter in Southwest Washington. We are a very resource rich district not so much with a 'conservative' population so much as an unrepresented one. The billionaires often try to tip the scales in local races, and we're stuck between a RW neofascist GOP candidate and the incumbent Vichy Dem ("independent bipartisan voice" MGP of WA-3) who always sides with R's on key policy. The duocracy can fuck aaaaaaaallllll the way off .

@RebelGeek99 @DrALJONES R'amen to the whole post, but particularly the last sentence! 😄

And all the best with getting actual representation for folks down that way… I'm half-sick… actually, all the way sick of corrupt Dems up here in Puget Sound. They're fighting tooth and claw to keep us from separating them from the lucre of their beloved developers and billionaires.
