There can (still) be only one: Highlander is 40
Sure, it's cheesy in many respects, but its central mythology still resonates even decades later.

@arstechnica

i remember being 11 or twelve when some kid at school was going around asking everyone, if we'd seen this awesome, new movie about immortal swordsmen. nobody had, but we were I N T R I G U E D.

we spent hours in mock sword fights, declaring there 'could only be one!' before we ever got our hands on a vhs copy of the film. when i did finally see it, i was thrilled by the action, but so much of the story was lost on me. that was fine. it rocked.

is there an expanded story availble in print somewhere, or did i dream that?

@arstechnica

Great movie that captures Zelazny-style fantasy- but the sequel stands as the worst sequel in the history of sequels.

@icastico @arstechnica the sequel has been disowned by everyone involved ๐Ÿ˜‚
@arstechnica the best thing to come out of Highlander was the TV series. And I'm not talking the kids animated series
@arstechnica now I'm interested in which respects it wasn't cheesy...

@arstechnica oh hell yeah, my favorite childhood series that I gladly revisited being and adult. Much needed and almost lost and forgotten values we badly need these days.

Yep, not really the movie but the series about Duncan McLeod, but still ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
