[P] There's something dark that lies in the neurotypical psyche that I really don't like. I'm disturbed by how... frankly omnipresent it is. It has much to do with essentialist xenophobia and goes something like this: If an exotically non-human—unrecognisable in any way as human—mother and child are depicted, both must suffer, they must be seoarated and tortured. This is enjoyed Universally by all neurotypicals.

[P] Atrocities can be normalised by depicting them through non-humans. I mwan, let's be frank. There isn't much of a jump between a monster in fiction and a black slave for Americans of that period. I look at fiction and I see horrors visited upon "monsters," where the only alleviation that comes is when a human (almost always white) decidea to "save" them from their own supposed savagery. I've always found it unsettling.
