Wildlife safari! I believe a Great Egret. Sadly, no long lens and SLR. #birds
Quite unusual here...
Strangely, not even in a field, that was someone's front yard! #urbanwildlife #wildlife
@ai6yr there's an egret that hangs out in the field of the school where I work
@MsMerope That's pretty neat!
@ai6yr YOU WANT FEET ILL GIVE YOU FEET
@ai6yr We get quite a few around us but we are by the Bay
@cvvhrn @ai6yr We even get them in southern Ontario in the summer. :)
@cvvhrn Great light on that one!
@ai6yr Thank you. It taken me a while to get comfortable shooting backlit or in iffy light. My favorite is this one from a different day where the more severe backlight illustrates how much of the wing is feathers
@cvvhrn Awesomeness! I did not have the SLR or a good lens with me (bicycling to the library, lol), that was one of the times I wish I did.

@ai6yr @cvvhrn as a kid, we would drive down every summer from Oregon to Fresno and then into the Sierras in the summer. I would always look for the first egret of the trip on the way south.. Usually we'd start seeing them around Arbuckle.

Years later I learned that there are a bunch of different species! I've seen at least three different species in the Salinas Valley in the last few years. And sometimes they come over and hunt from the floating kelp canopy here in Monterey.

@ai6yr back when we had a fish pond here in Newbury Park, these guys would come and hang out all the time hoping for a catch.

@W6KME Oooh, maybe the same one? Liizards, huh.....
@ai6yr I think they're after the frogs in Conejo Creek, and occasionally check out the surrounding neighborhood. It's been an awesome year for the frogs (until the heat wave this week at least)
@ai6yr we see them all the time here in Saticoy around the orchards
@suuuuconk I wonder what they are eating?
@ai6yr the rats and other creatures in the orchard - I thought they only ate fish but they eat lizards too!
