Busy times… And then I went onto running the 2nd leg of a session on chip music, trackers, and demoscene. Today it was on OctaMED Amiga tracker and Akai sampler. Courtesy of Bizzy B/Brain Records an Equinox/Scientific Wax— underrepresented demoscene figures—haven’t seen them mentioned in journals… it was an attempt to take part in the efforts to give them recognition in my very own way

On another note I have not been very up to date with my lsdj and renoise jams, I am using other tools more actively, even after writing so much about them back in 2019 but I hope to present some of my 4-bit setup here. Or I may not. Who knows… I wonder if there are people who use these things in fediverse, in any style of music. I know some and I would be keen to find out more.

@elifyalvac yes! been making gameboy music on and off for a decade or so, and taught some LSDJ to students of an "alive dead media" class at my uni :)

@ahihi i like that class title! How did students get on? Cheers for sharing this! I am sorry that I missed your livestream the other day. I wrote a thesis on the aesthetic and creative value of limitations in chip music context back in the day. After writing so much on it I decided to pick it up myself to fiddle with it back in the day. Also, a quick intro for two: @metin in SID context and more.

Edit: can’t wait to properly check these out when I am awake on my desktop

@elifyalvac it was in 2020, remote due to covid restrictions, but they were really into it. "alive dead media" was a week-long course organized by Markku Reunanen and i was invited to talk about gameboy music. these were MA students, maybe ~30yo on average, so many had played gameboy games as kids and a few had used trackers before. everyone made a tune and at the end i loaded them onto my gameboy and we had fun listening to them all on the actual hardware ^^
@ahihi And good to have that nostalgia connection as well, in that age group.
