It's Gameboy's birthday apparently.
I didn't have a GB back in the day. Borrowed one and played a little Tetris, but: a) I couldn't afford one, b) I wasn't impressed.😄

BUT sometime around 2005 I discovered the new wave of #chipmusic, which seems to have sprung up from the invention of #LSDJ (but don't quote me on that), and was hooked on artists such as Bit Shifter and Animal Style (later nmlstyl).

So here's some personal favourites:

Lovely instrument! Gameboy. This time running an LSDJ tracker in a non-emulator context. Love the crunchy rough sounds in the making enjoying how the commands and values generate fun results.

Just 4 channels: 2 pulse waves, 1 wave and a noise channel. Simple, portable in look but it has much inside going beyond nostalgia.

It gave me so much perspective, including smoothening my introduction to Renoise back in the day when I wanted to explore it as I just love learning and playing with a wide range of tools when I can, not just for teaching.

Great to revisit after writing so much about it in thesis context years ago.

And I would suggest you follow @defensem3ch’s work for some of the best chiptunes and learning!
