metaverse wasn't inevitable
ar glasses weren't inevitable
blockchain wasn't inevitable

ai isn't inevitable
nothing is inevitable!!!!
the ultimate hidden truth of the world is that it is something that we make
and could just as easily make differently
make choices
make choices
make choices
@computer I choose not to die
@computer “ChatGPT, should I use AI?”
@computer
Computer, make the world less computery.
@computer Anything that acts as a wealth concentrator, that doesn’t have consequences for the people reaping it, is in fact inevitable. And that is why AI is inevitable. Now; once the bubble bursts it will largely end. But the bubble in all of those was inevitable. And nothing to do with end users choices.
@mattwilcox @computer history is the story of humans averting or failing to avert the next "inevitability". "Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings."

@jplebreton @computer History is just a record of what happened. Nothing more. A thing many people fail to realise is that systems control outcomes far far far more than any organised, conscious, or individual choice.

And systems are a lot more complicated than any given definition, because everything is interconnected.

But I will *always* bet on systems, not logic.

@mattwilcox @computer systems are made entirely of human decisions and human labor
@mattwilcox @computer how does this worldview you're expressing help you? how does it help alleviate any of the suffering in this world? what do you believe is worth fighting for?

@jplebreton @computer It doesn’t.

It’s all still worth fighting for. I just know that effectiveness of individual choice is mostly negligible. If we want change; we have to change the system. Not the people.

And entrenched systems don’t change easy. Sometimes you have to burn them down, because they resist change. But sometime, they truly are inevitable.

We live lives utterly impossible by all our ancestors. Because of inevitable systems.

@mattwilcox @computer it sounds like your worldview is centered on passivity and comfort, with an incoherent model of change, an odd depersonalization of "systems", and no understanding of history as a struggle of forces and ideas. given your initial "nuh-uh" reply to the OP's call to action i figured talking to you would be a waste of time but i had to try.
@computer Then, choices are inevitable 😏
@computer Metaverse was my favourite of these because it made horrible companies lose lots of money without damaging the rest of the world. Feel bad for game devs doing VR who thought they’d have a larger market.
