Tonight was Backwoods Cooking at #Scouts.

First up, an experimental hotdog sausage wrapped in a thin damper.

Then toasting marshmallows, some did s’mores.

Followed by campfire cones, with their choice of chocolate, fruit, etc wrapped in foil and put in the embers.

The fire-building prowess of some of them was a frustrating watch. There's a few that should be much better by now, they haven’t been in my Cub Pack for a while now. If anything they’d regressed.

@[email protected] awesom. Did they enjoy?

@forquare Yes, but more from socialising and not concentrating on the activities than I would like. But they turned up.

There was far too much of leaving fires unattended. I don't count it needs to be one of them and it just isn't occurring to them, even when I mention it it's not lodging in their heads.

@hischeekiness @forquare it does eventually sink in - my daughter (a scout obv) admonished me about leaving the fire pit at home unattended!

@adp @forquare Hope so, they have got a few more years left at Scouts.

There’s a few that seem to be continually “just letting their friends do it” at times, so it’s frustrating that even the most simple of campfire building aren’t being retained despite them having been first shown it at Cubs and being a couple years into Scouts now.

I’m not at Scouts normally so I don’t know how often they are getting opportunity, but even if just when I’ve been there there should be more experience.
