Imagine the strength of the free world, if the American people had elected a president who joined the European alliance and sent marines to take Crimea in Ukraine instead of Kharg Island in Iran.
@randahl There is no point in imagining, Randahl, it doesn't bring anything. That concept of "free world" no longer exists. Better spend our mental energies in what we can do to actually free Crimea and the occupied territories in Ukraine instead.
@Enea90 @randahl
The concept probably really existed.
But also real?
@Enea90 just because one nation is leaving, that does not mean the party is over. 🙂
@randahl Even so, no one would have dared, I think. Because nuclear deterrence.
@fanchig @randahl I am afraid with just a bigoted narcissist at the button brings fear. No one seems to be capable of stopping the dement fool 🤔
@connynasch @fanchig @randahl I’ve recently been wondering if his lackeys would actually let him launch one. I have no doubts he would but his last term I didn’t think they would actually do it, this times different
@randahl
That's quite an interesting scenario and spectacle, Herr Fink.
@randahl Also, such a president might have qualified for the Nobel Peace Prize…
@randahl Imagine the strength of the free world if the American people had elected a president who cut the military budget by two thirds and shifted those funds to infrastructure, humanitarian needs and environment. Certainly even national security would be greater if the USA was seen as the number one provider of humanitarian aid rather than the number one producer of weapons and war
@randahl If Trump sent the Marines to Ukraine it's not clear who they would be targeting.
@dcdeejay @randahl sadly I agree. For decades they supported the "democracies" of the world and now they seem to have turned completely kleptomanic...

@connynasch @dcdeejay @randahl

this is a perspective pitched by the US media

in reality, the marines have long been a deeply troubled force with religious extremists at the helm and embedded throughout

https://mitchellglennfrommichigan.medium.com/does-the-us-military-have-a-christian-nationalism-problem-adde2ff1709d

etc etc, even tho AF person

https://www.npr.org/2021/04/07/984700148/the-military-confronts-extremism-one-conversation-at-a-time

tl;dr: the marines were always the big domestic terror threat behind the cops

Is There a Christian Nationalism Problem in the US Military?

Retired Air Force officer Mikey Weinstein says there is and is trying to separate church and state, but it might be too late

Medium

@connynasch @dcdeejay @randahl "Young soldiers in the division, members of an underground band of neo-Nazi skinheads, shot and murdered two Black pedestrians in nearby Fayetteville.

"But we discovered that the signs for that activity were there all along. We just didn't know what to look for or what to pay attention to — but we learned from that.""

@randahl

Biden had his chance, but refused appeasing the faction of the authoritarian party instead.

"The origins of the Russia-Ukraine War begin in February 2014"

"On February 24, 2022, the world watched in horror as Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine"

Heck, one could say Obama had his chance, but refused siding with the traitor faction.

Conclusion, both sides avariciously side with Russia and the overthrow of AMerIca

@randahl Perhaps the free world is smaller than we think...
@randahl The continued existence of the Russian and Chinese Nuclear arsenals begs the question on whether any of us would still be here (in any meaningful form) had the U.S. invaded Crimea... :
