But I wonder, why at this point would it help Orban to associate himself with someone like Vance?

Vance to visit Hungary days before polls open
U.S. Vice President JD Vance is planning a visit to Hungary as Prime Minister Viktor Orbán fights a close election and courts support from Washington. Hungary’s foreign minister said on a podcast that Vance will make his visit in early April. Vance's office has not confirmed the trip. The visit would come days before Hungary votes on April 12. Orbán has led the country since 2010 and now faces his toughest challenge from the center-right Tisza party and its leader, Péter Magyar. In February, Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Budapest and strongly backed Orbán.
