@georgetakei without getting into politics but rather the Second World War: actually Japan DID try declaring war but they were defeated (by encryption as I recall).
This is little known and FDR kept it secret to rile up support from the public.
That only made people more furious even though in time of war embargoes are not exactly neutral.
@georgetakei and obviously the public did need to be riled up. Itโs unfortunate that victors write history. Not that those who lost - including Japan - have not written their own versions but the victors have more success. It also doesnโt even matter if they were โgoodโ or โbadโ.
Because itโs a very human trait.
Nonetheless it would be better if some of the lesser known facts about the Japanese in the Second World War were actually known.
@georgetakei unfortunately all sides lied and covered up things. The US had Nazis land on the east coast during Operation Drumbeat.
And the Japanese occupied Attu Island. Which resulted in real tragedy when an American shot a Japanese American doctor (who absolutely loved America).
The place is almost entirely inhospitable but of course they still would care.
The Battle of Attu is one of the most tragic battles of the war.
Obviously Axis Powers also covered up etc.
I'm sure she could have made a tasteless joke how Japan was warned by the USA about a new weapon that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but she had more taste than that. I would have immediately walked out of the room without saying a word, which is why I could never have been a diplomat, let alone Prime Minister of any country. So, kudos to Takaichi for having tact and nerves of steel.
