@georgetakei without getting into politics but rather the Second World War: actually Japan DID try declaring war but they were defeated (by encryption as I recall).
This is little known and FDR kept it secret to rile up support from the public.
That only made people more furious even though in time of war embargoes are not exactly neutral.
@georgetakei and obviously the public did need to be riled up. It’s unfortunate that victors write history. Not that those who lost - including Japan - have not written their own versions but the victors have more success. It also doesn’t even matter if they were ‘good’ or ‘bad’.
Because it’s a very human trait.
Nonetheless it would be better if some of the lesser known facts about the Japanese in the Second World War were actually known.
@georgetakei unfortunately all sides lied and covered up things. The US had Nazis land on the east coast during Operation Drumbeat.
And the Japanese occupied Attu Island. Which resulted in real tragedy when an American shot a Japanese American doctor (who absolutely loved America).
The place is almost entirely inhospitable but of course they still would care.
The Battle of Attu is one of the most tragic battles of the war.
Obviously Axis Powers also covered up etc.
