@cadey yeah in retrospect having a bunch of mastodon instances automatically query a fulltext search results page was PROBABLY a mistake

@foone @cadey is this traffic caused by users all interacting with the link? Or the mere inclusion of the link causes fedi to try to crawl it something? (And when other instances are notified of the status too?)

@colinstu @foone @cadey the latter; I have to filter out *so* much fedi noise every time I look at my access logs. even just updating my profile triggers a rescrape on thousands of instances

@astraleureka @foone @cadey I'm curious why the remote instances have to reach out directly, instead of relying upon the source instance to provide card link fetching/preview / act as a proxy or something.
