Q3: How many tools do you have? To the nearest significant figure… #MakersHour
@MakersHour #MakersHour A3: I think I have a couple dozen pairs of knitting needles/interchangeable needle tips, plus a few hundred stitch markers, and two dedicated pairs of fabric scissors

@WizardOfDocs @MakersHour

I'm gradually acquiring full sewing sets in 3 different rooms, plus my repair cafe set, and a travelling set. I think I must have 4 pairs of fabric scissors!

@MakersHour At first I thought "does each individual stitch marker count?" and then realised that was nonsense, so then I tried to ballpark the different *types* of tools around the house, and tl:dr I think it's approximately a bajillion. #MakersHour

Q3: How many tools do you have? To the nearest significant figure… #MakersHour

Well, probably around 100. Up to 200? Are we counting individual sewing needles?

@MakersHour A3 How many tools? a household toolbox, a small electrical set, some garden tools, a rather redundant sewing kit. Fewer than 1000, more than 100, leaving fasteners and materials aside.

Q3: How many tools do you have? To the nearest significant figure…

A3: I don’t know, and I’m not sure I want to. I’m going to wimp out and declare my answer as lots and lots.

@MakersHour

@MakersHour pah, I have no idea! Hundreds. There's a shed full of screwdrivers, drills, shears, chisels etc. Another shed full of garden tools, several boxes of sewing junk (needles, scissors, seam rippers, mysterious doodads, my sewing machine, dozens of knitting needles and crochet hooks) dozens of cameras, developing tanks, scanning masks etc etc

@Stratski @MakersHour Same, if we’re including everything in the household I might use…but add in art stuff, watercolor and acrylic paint and brushes, inks and pens and markers, pencils and crayons. I don’t think I can even begin to guess. We have put a moratorium on new hobbies —for now. 🙈😂
@DonnaG @MakersHour Seems a bit drastic... 😁
@Stratski @MakersHour Since we make the rules, we can change them. 😁

@MakersHour

A3 that depends how you define tool. Is an end mill a tool? Is a drill bit? I don't actually know the answer. I'm guessing well into 3 figures, possibly into 4 figures. But that covers the tools for:

- woodworking
- metalworking
- plastics
- ceramics
- sewing
- knitting
- leatherwork
- Plumbing
- gardening
- general household maintenance
- electronics
- 3d printing.

Hmmm. Yeah, probably into 4 figures.

#MakersHour

@quixoticgeek @MakersHour Yeah, it really depends on how you classify things.

For me, I'd guess upper 2 digits for higher level tools. But definitely 3 digits if mills/bits/needles/probes/etc count. (probably not 4 - only due to lack of space)

#MakersHour

@tschundler @MakersHour I buy drill bits in packs of ten, I buy screw driver bits in packs of 25... It adds up. Fast.
@MakersHour If we just count the 3D printers, then the answer is probably too many! Or to look at it another way, one less than I want right now. #MakersHour

@drfootleg
I see that N+1 applies to more than just bicycles then! 😂

#MakersHour

@drfootleg @MakersHour The latter half of that is the correct answer.
@MakersHour Uncountable number. I do too many things. I don't think I know how many colored pencils I have. I lost count of how many knives are in my office, and that doesn't even count the workshop or the barn!
