I need some people in congress to create a slide deck for what services could be provided for 200 billion dollars. Actually, let me clarify that I mean services that are not part of waging war. Services to citizens and constituents
@griotspeak You could close every coal mine in the country and give every miner a $5 million pension.
@rsabourin Yes, this is good. More like this. Just extravagant sounding ideas that are unassailable in how clearly they would improve people’s lives. My only note: please list the remaining change

@griotspeak @rsabourin The median rental for a 1BR across the US is $1500/month. In 2024, there were estimated to be 770k unhoused people.

You could pay the rent for each person to have their own, individual apartment for 10 years, and still have $60B left over.

You couldn't *quite* buy them each a house of their own ($360k median sale price). About half would need a roommate/family.

@griotspeak

They kicked all of the smart people out of the military who knew the circumstances where this might happen. Power is something you project, once the illusion is broken its gone forever. Better to have an F-35 and no one knows just how powerful and sneaky it is than to use it and remove all doubts.

I don't even like this stuff but this is so embarrassing.

@griotspeak

Wait are you talking about the budget or that one expensive jet that just let get shot down?

LET. They let that happen.

@futurebird @griotspeak

TBF: When I played the Superweapon General for the first time in Command & Conquer: Zero Hour, that happened to me too.

@futurebird @griotspeak

I don't think any of the individual jets have marginal cost of $200B but so far the US has probably used up or committed to use up a minimum of 200B. Last I heard it was $11B or so in just munitions, don't talk about fuel, combat salaries, etc etc. Not to mention the opportunity cost created by rising fuel prices and eventually food prices and falling availability of goods etc.

@futurebird Budget, I think. My post was in response to a report suggesting that a 200 billion dollar request was coming for war efforts
@futurebird @griotspeak
#Nimzovich (the #Chess #grandmaster) IIRC "The threat is always stronger than its execution"
Although #Clausewitz probably said something similar, he commonly had.

@griotspeak

$200 billion dollars is about 8 times the annual budget for USAID before it was illegally inferred with by Rubio, Musk, Vought, and others on Donald Trump's orders.

Those programs saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of people per year.

@griotspeak Katie Porters whiteboard!
@starlily Huh 🤔 are you saying that this is a thing that exists in some form already?

@griotspeak https://www.elle.com/culture/career-politics/a34220100/rep-katie-porter-whiteboard/

There are probably some great clips of her in action on YouTube, too

Rep. Katie Porter's Whiteboard Will Dry Erase Your Dignity

With her Whiteboard of Justice and Marker of Truth, Rep. Katie Porter is schooling Big Pharma.

@griotspeak Think of how many taco trucks we could get for that kind of money!
