@MakersHour My first proper memory is of us moving house when I was two. I spent all of moving day sitting in the new kitchen out of everyone's way, making a Christmas card with cotton wool snowmen on.

When I got older origami became the thing, and then Meccano was an obsession for quite a few years. We had a neighbour who made garden gnomes so I got quite into helping with that too! And in my early teens took up sewing although in a very unskilled manner.

p.s. I just did a search and found out Meccano is still a thing, this would be dangerous knowledge if I had any money...

Q2: Were you a maker as a child? If so, what? #MakersHour

Oh yes. All sorts. Models from old toilet roll tubes and stuff. Lego. Little bits of sewing and embroidery. Hand drawn cards at Christmas for friends and family. Mum used to get us to draw designs, and then she'd photocopy them at work for us to colour in. TBH, the colouring in got a bit tedious....

In sixth grade, someone gave me a friendship bracelet kit for my birthday, and that was my special interest until I picked up crochet again in high school (and knitting at uni). I even sold bracelets at a couple of neighborhood garage sale days.

Q2: Were you a maker as a child? If so, what?

A2: I had Lego and meccano, so yes! One of the few classes I enjoyed at school was design and technology, doing woodwork and metalwork. I remember making a hacksaw, no idea what happened to it!

A2 yes. Lots, mostly wood, but also ceramics, textiles, electronics, and plastic. In fact my "design and technology" (what school called wood work, metalworking, cooking, and sewing). Report one year said "give her a couple of peices of 2x4, and she'll build anything".

@MakersHour Q2 A2 Maker as a child? In small packaged ways, polystyrene models and glue. More a collector perhaps? Rocks and coins. My father was more the maker, a bicyclist, photographer with darkroom, who made us an A-Frame playhouse covered with long eucalyptus branches dropped from the grove by the University of California San Diego.

I got into cooking because I had allergies which needed modifications to avoid eggs and milk.

I did a little sewing in middle grades, but most of my making is after moving out on my own.

A2: Absolutely! Maybe it was a result of Legos. I was recently discussing with my partner that perhaps Lego Technics are why I seem to more intuitively understand the mechanics of a camera she was trying to repair.

The "Astable Multivibrator" (LED blinker) was my favorite circuit in elementary school.
