Driving lesson the fourth.

A dramatic start, as someone fell and needed medical attention on the side of the road, but luckily my instructor knows first aid!

Spent all morning sick with nerves but it went ok really. Even got up to 50mph on a Big Scary Road!*

Next week he wants me properly on the dual carriageway though, idk about that 😬

* for like three seconds, while making a high pitched "eeeee" noise the whole time

@thegiddystitcher my father, once I had passed my test and picked up my new (to me) car from my parents' house (sourced by my mechanic cousin), made me drive him to the petrol station, put some petrol in the car, then drive him back home on the motorway. Terrifying, but important to do (he gave me some tips as we did this) you have to bite the bullet and do these things so you don't put them off forever. It's a good sign that your instructor is taking you there.

@fak He's seen how massively anxious I am so I guess he must have some faith in me or pushing it too soon would probably just make that worse.

I do have one fairly consistent problem holding me back though so hoping to practise it a bit in our car this week and go into the next lesson more confident 🤞

@thegiddystitcher one of the great things about the fast roads is that there is almost no changing of gears and very little steering. Everyone pretty much stays in their lanes, there are significantly fewer hazards (no kids, no dogs, no bikes), you can take your time to decide to change lane. It's just the speed (yours and everyone else's).

@fak That is definitely a good way to think about it. I'll probably still keep making the "eeeeee" noise for a while though! 😂

If I can master the dual carriageway, I can start driving us to parkrun. There's a good milestone to look forward to.
