Is it political to claim an issue is not political?
it IS political to claim an issue is not political
it IS NOT political to claim an issue is not political
it depends on the issue: some issues really aren't political, in which case, it is not political to claim that issue is not political

I just want to point out I started typing this questionnaire before https://www.businessinsider.com/tim-cook-response-trump-relationship-criticism-2026-3 went live, and timestamps have us within 10 minutes of each other. I had not seen that and this wasn't a take on that.

But having posted, giving my feed a quick scroll, I just saw that article's headline (haven't read it proper).

Coincidence!

Sign of the times that it's that much of A Thing!

'I'm not political': Tim Cook responds to backlash against his relationship with the Trump administration

Tim Cook discussed his political stance on "Good Morning America," saying he focuses on policy over politics.

Business Insider

"I'm not a political person on either side," Cook said. "I'm not political."

That... that's not what political means. That's what partisan means.

Tim Cook isn't stupid. He knows what words mean. Saying that, like that, is talking like a politician - lying softly or misleading without stating an obvious falsehood.

#politics #apple #USPol

He's being a snake in plain sight:

"What I do is I interact on policy, not politics," Cook [said]

But politics is literally policy-making. That's... that's what they do. They don't do enforcement, they don't do labour, they just decide on the rules. That's literally the job.

"If you looked at your iPhone today, the front cover and the back cover, all of that glass will be coming out of Kentucky by the end of this year,"

Moving manufacturing to the USA is a political choice at the same time as being a business choice!

getting a lot of mileage out of  today

@datum
Hundreds of thousands of non political Russians ended up on the frontline in Ukraine and are now dead.

@datum

There's nothing more extremist - literally nothing - in our world than being "apolitical".

@johnzajac abandoning efforts to consider morality and ethics and doing what one is told as a cog in whichever machines - that hasn't been an acceptable excuse since the late 1940s!

@datum

Or last week in the US Congress

@johnzajac @datum How do you define "issue?" That makes a world of difference.

@Fishercat How do you define "is"?

Please use the broadest definition for the purpose of this inquiry..If you can think of a way that something might be "an issue" then it qualifies for the set.

@datum OK. The sense of the word as just "question" threw me.

@Fishercat Yes, I posted it with more lighthearted intent before seeing the highly relevant news, and should've chosen a better word or phrase, not included quite so much noise in the answer set, and so on.

I made mistakes!

@datum No worries! I'm sorry If I was giving you a hard time. It seemed like you were asking a serious question in a lighthearted way, and I was trying to respect the question.

@datum

LOL! "Politically neutral"! What a mental babies these business people are.

@tomjennings Also

Cook personally donated $1 million to Trump's inaugural committee in January 2025

from that same article, which seems kinda partisan AND political???

@datum

Oh, those must have been dusty old non-political dollars from the Olden Dayes.

@datum ever

fuck off, Tim Cook. 'not political' = fascist appeaser

You are either ant-fascist, or you're not

Cook / Apple are part of the #ACO (*Anarcho-Capitalist Oligarchy). & he has clearly prioritized profits over people

#TimCook is a #FascistAppeaser
