My poor Mac SE doing my first #globaltalk for #marchintosh keeps locking up periodically. I had installed Pyro a few days ago because I didn't want to risk burn-in while this ran 24/7 for the month... but I'm finding it randomly frozen. Doesn't appear to be any specific screensaver module, either... so this might be fun to narrown down since I can't be sure if it's Pyro or the filesharing / routing activities in the background. :(
@halfpress From the year 1995, I can report that when the screensaver turns on, Aldus Prep stops sending data to the image processor, resulting in endless blank pages (complete with crop marks)
@jacquiharper Ye Olde “Cooperative” Multitasking FTW. :)
@halfpress - just install After Dark 2.0x like the rest of us! It runs fine on an SE. I have one myself.
@halfpress I have found cracked solder joints on the SE analog board that could potentially cause random issues.
@BigBadBiologist Hoping this isn’t the cause, but I’ll see what happens as I change the screen blanking situation first…
@halfpress the best screensaver for an SE is just turn the brightness all the way down ;)
@MARCHintosh Oooh - how did I not consider the obvious? I spent a while last week looking for the built-in energy/screensaver to blank it only to remember that didn’t exist yet in System 7.x (and how far beyond?). ;)
@halfpress Keep in mind that a screensaver will only prevent burn-in. The CRT will still age since the SE does not turn it off. Personally, I would not run a compact Mac like that 24/7.
