Omg WTF someone stole one my locks off my bicycle. I'm angry but also flabbergasted cause it will not be useful to them ever. There's no way to even recover a spare key without my info 🙄 #sxsw #BikeTooter #cycling
@kitoconnell I will pick open locks if they're on public gates, but I always re lock them afterwards. Key impressioning tools are more common now and with a little skill anyone can make a new key. If I spent a good bit of money on a lock, I would gut it and make it very difficult for even the best pickers to open.
@Underthehighwatermarkc aha that is news to me and does explain why someone would steal a lock. Lesson learned. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Yeah, lockpicking has become a lot higher profile hobby in recent years... Though, I have to say, stealing someone's bike lock is bad form at least!
@kitoconnell stealing a lock, even for locksport, is still stealing. The first rule of locksport is only pick locks that you own.
However, I suspect that someone may have tried to steal your bike, but only managed to remove one lock, or they plan to try again later. I recommend replacing it quickly and park somewhere different for awhile.

@trouble I usually use both locks but had only used one because I was in an unusual amount of a hurry. So they just grabbed the closed lock off its mount and a couple of other easy loose items from my bike. I was in a crowded bike corral and I suspect they just went down the line and grabbed anything that wasn't attached.

In any case the bike is back home with me now!

@kitoconnell

If it was a Kryptonite, you can send them in and, for a little money, get a new lock and keys.

'nothing I would steal a lock over, but some people...
