Opposition to Israel has NEVER made me feel like I was in danger as a Jew.

But goddamn I feel more in danger because an apartheid state on the other side of the world is committing genocide and war and saying they’re doing it in my name.

I hate that wearing something that may identify me as Jewish may indicate support for a country I want nothing to do with.

@rooster Reminded that a fair few people opposed the Nazis not because they were Nazis but because they were German

@rooster

I agree with this. I think the world is made less safe when ghettos are just something people are ok with.

@rooster As a Christian in AmeriKKKa I feel like that too.
Not as bad as being Jewish right now, I’m sure.
Stick to your faith!
@rooster Support for Palestinian rights was a consistent through-line of my Jewish childhood. Criticism of Israel is a Jewish way of thinking for me, and always has been.
@rooster I hate that my name makes some people think I support the government of Israel and its fascist prime minister. I am stuck with the obligation to keep disclaiming any connection or commitment to that government.
@rooster I feel it’s very concerning since idiot America’s most ignorant can’t separate the government atrocities from the citizens or associations with. The same way even maga goofs can’t separate the love for a country and the pedo leader.
@rooster it doesn't help that a lot of Netanyahu's political allies in the west are also rabid antisemites
@rooster I guess it has been never been more important to identify BOTH as a jew and as an antizionist, but I feel you, it is tough. I am a german and it is tough too to be antizionist, because the official stance in our country is blind and complete support of Israel because of misplaced/managed guilt.

@rooster
My ancestors were Jews who came from Sweden in the late 19th century. I was born in Florianópolis (in southern Brazil), where we have
a street in the old city center with small shops run by Jews and Palestinians (there are several of them, side by side, and they’re all friends).
I’ve never seen them fight.

@rooster

Ye. It doesn't feel great to be part of the tax base that funds *all of this*, either.

@rooster
Netanyahu and his genocidal thugs lie to try to use every Jewish person in the world as a human shield for the actions of Israel

Deliberately framing criticism of Israeli actions as an attack on "the Jewish community" is something politicians in the UK do constantly

Its infuriating that its been done deliberately and cynically by so many politicians and much of the media , and
I'm really sorry that you are in this position

@rooster
Israeli politics are not Judaism.
How do we get that across in this orange age?
@rooster and if you or I get attacked, that'll be used as propaganda for a political movement we don't support and is knowingly ramping up the danger for all Jews, while claiming to protect and speak for all Jews. It's one of the most cynical and maddening things.
